The drug is currently being tested in laboratory mice.
The Japan Times reported that a group of scientists at the Tokyo Institute of Medical Sciences continues to work on a vaccine against COVID-19. After undergoing the vaccination procedure, a person will be immune for life. Japanese specialists intend to start testing the drug in 2023.
The innovative vaccine is based on the formula of a preparation against smallpox, which was created by British doctor Edward Jenner 300 years ago. According to one of the authors of the study, Professor Mitinori Kohara, in the XVIII century, Jenner inoculated people with a non-hazardous virus of cowpox, which helped defeat the epidemic.
Experts noted the need for a vaccine that would provide lifelong immunity. For this purpose, a mutation protein of the coronavirus was added to the formula of the smallpox vaccine.
The drug is now being tested in laboratory mice. After the introduction of the vaccine, the high level of antibodies remained in the rodents for more than 20 months, and at the same time, they did not have any deaths.
