The U.S. agency is scheduled to deploy the habitation and fuel sections on the Earth satellite in 2027. But the current design proved too heavy for all existing rockets.
From the report of the U.S. House of Accounts it became known that the implementation of NASA's project to create a station on the Moon has run into a number of technical problems that have not yet been solved. The agency said that as early as 2027 will be able to send to the Earth's satellite the necessary components of the station. Only this stage will cost 5.3 billion dollars.
But during the work it became clear that the weight of the living and fuel compartments is too high and no rocket does not have enough payload capacity to bring them to the desired lunar orbit.
The original plan was to have the station mounted 12 months before the arrival of astronauts who will go into lunar orbit as part of the Artemis 4 program in September 2028.
Scientists have moved closer to uncovering the reasons for life on young planets.
China has completed testing of a vacuum engine that will send Chinese astronauts to the Moon.
