Scientists at Belgorod State University have established the role of MMP gene polymorphism in the occurrence of breast cancer.
Russian scientists have identified another genetic factor that increases the risk of breast cancer in women, the Russian Ministry of Education reports.
In particular, the discovery was made by specialists from Belgorod State University. They examined data on 358 women diagnosed with breast cancer and compared them with 746 healthy patients.
It turned out that a significant role in the emergence of cancer plays a polymorphism of the gene matrix metalloproteinases.
The scientists believe the discovery will make it possible to identify women with a predisposition to develop breast cancer in the future and prevent the disease more effectively, writes TASS.
