Heavy snowfalls led to the formation of drifts and ice on the city streets and sidewalks of the Northern capital. Petersburgers hurrying to work are forced to stand in many kilometers of traffic jams. The number of accidents (including serious injuries) due to bad weather and poor organization of the work of utilities has increased again.

Throughout December, residents of St. Petersburg note the need for emergency measures to remove snow and ice, and also complain about Smolny officials who have allowed a prolonged "snow collapse". However, the administration of the governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, ignores the signals coming from the citizens, as well as the objective reality, and is still not ready to put things in order on the streets and sidewalks of the city.
