Peterburg metro will not function on New Year’s Eve

On New Year's Eve the metro will not function in St. Petersburg due to the unfavorable situation on COVID-19.

At a meeting of the city government, the chairman of the Committee on Culture Konstantin Sukhenko said that the metro will not function on New Year's Eve in order to prevent mass crowding of people in the St. Petersburg subway.

This decision was made due to the rapid increase in the number of new cases of coronavirus. Authorities are taking measures to reduce the number of people celebrating New Year on the street. Citizens were reminded that all the main festive celebrations will be held in an online format.

At the same time, it is noted that the St. Petersburg metro will work on the night of January 7.

Earlier it was reported about the cancellation of the launch of the holiday salute. In addition, this year there will be no traditional meeting of Santa Claus on Palace Square.
