According to Vice-Governor Irina Potekhina, the government of St. Petersburg has no plans to transfer the education system to a distance format.

The fifth wave of covid will peak by the end of January. If there are outbreaks of covid in individual classes, they will automatically be sent to distance education. If it becomes a mass phenomenon, schools will go to distance without any centralized decision, Potekhina specified.

In the second quarter of the last academic year in St. Petersburg schools was introduced a mixed learning format, which helped the city's education system to survive the year 2021 without shocks. If "omicron" spreads, this practice may be needed this year as well.

For now, the situation in the city's schools is quiet. There are fewer than 300 teachers and 1,120 children on sick leave.
