The leadership of St. Petersburg has revealed that the city's public transportation system will introduce fare payment using a geolocation service. Such an initiative was previously proposed by the Russian Ministry of Transportation, and Passazhazhiravtotrans was chosen for the experiment.

Chairman of the Committee on Transport of St. Petersburg Valentin Enokaev noted that the city wants to be among the first to introduce various initiatives. This experiment will begin in September. The official assured that the result will be more than satisfactory. He said this to the journalist of the publication “Petersburg Diary”.

The essence of the new method of payment is that the smartphone will record the time and geo-tagging and on their basis to determine what transport was used by a person, and write off payment for travel.

A tunnel for cars will be dug in the center of St. Petersburg.

In Voronezh, public transportation fares will be raised.
