The 13th Arbitration Court of Appeal in St. Petersburg has overturned the decision of the first instance and ruled that the Finnish company must pay Baltiysky Zavod €7.6 million transferred as an advance payment for equipment for nuclear icebreakers.

The Russian company filed a lawsuit with the court after Wartsila refused to supply parts required for the construction of the Yakutia and Chukotka nuclear icebreakers. Back in May, the court of first instance ruled in favor of Baltiysky Zavod and demanded that the Finnish manufacturer pay €5.1 million. But on February 13, 2024, this decision was overturned.

Earlier it was reported that Baltiysky Zavod received 22 billion rubles from the budget to build three icebreakers of 22220 series.

Vladimir Putin announced the start of construction of the nuclear-powered icebreaker Leningrad in early 2024.
