Red-book woodpeckers will be recalculated in Polezhaevsky park

Smolny decided to find out how many lesser spotted woodpeckers live in Polezhaevsky Park. The bird, which is listed in the Red Book, was noticed by a resident of St. Petersburg.

The man turned to the vice-governor Nikolay Bondarenko. The nature lover asked the authorities to include the rare bird in the observation base. The official replied that it would be done.

Woodpeckers in the park will be counted and monitored in spring and summer. The bird population will be monitored by ecologists.

Residents of the city, who will see lesser spotted woodpeckers in the Polezhaevsky Park, are asked to inform. Then the census of birds can be carried out more efficiently, noted in Smolny.

The authorities are keeping an electronic record of the birds, plants and animals in the Red Book. Now the lesser spotted woodpecker is included in the database.
