Since the beginning of 2025, the volume of online commerce in St. Petersburg has grown by more than a third

Residents of the city on the Neva have become noticeably more likely to buy online food in retail stores. The service of ordering food from cafes and restaurants has shown tremendous growth. Meanwhile, marketplaces continue to increase their assortment.

The growth of online commerce in St. Petersburg has amounted to 38% since the beginning of 2025, and its turnover has reached 278 billion rubles. It also turned out that the share of goods sold online by retailers increased from 18.1% to 23%. St. Petersburg residents most often ordered food products in stores.

According to the Delovoy Peterburg publication, food orders from cafes and restaurants increased by 27%, reaching 75 billion rubles. Another 46 billion rubles were spent on the purchase of furniture and household goods. In third place is clothing and footwear - 32 billion rubles. Electronics and household appliances have been purchased for 29 billion rubles since the beginning of the year.

"If in 2023 the volume of the Russian online market was 540 billion rubles, in 2024 it reached 8.7 trillion rubles. At the same time, marketplaces continue to expand their assortment, adding even cars and yachts, although their share in total sales remains insignificant," says Artem Sokolov, president of the Association of Internet Commerce Companies (AKIT).

Earlier it was reported that Wildberries logistics center will soon reopen in Shushary.

Due to the growing popularity of online shopping in the center of St. Petersburg, 25 grocery stores closed in 2025.
