18 candidates will take part in the St. Petersburg gubernatorial election

The main contender for the governor's post is the current mayor, Alexander Beglov.

The St. Petersburg City Election Commission has received documents from 18 people who intend to stand as candidates in the gubernatorial elections to be held from September 6 to 8, 2024. The head of the State Election Commission Maxim Meiksin noted that 10 of them are self-nominated, while the rest are nominated by political parties.

From “United Russia” the incumbent governor Alexander Beglov will participate in the elections. In addition, the party “Just Russia - For Truth” announced that Nadezhda Tikhonova will go to the polls on its behalf. The CPRF nominated Roman Kononenko, and LDPR - Maxim Yakovlev.

May 27, it became known that Dmitry Medvedev publicly proposed Beglov to become a candidate for governor from United Russia.

Governor Alexander Beglov said that St. Petersburg will conclude more than 50 different agreements within the framework of SPIEF-2024.
