On the morning of December 8, the main New Year's symbol - a Christmas tree - was installed on Palace Square in St. Petersburg. Citizens are sharing photos of the tree with a damaged crown and discuss the cost of its installation. Many are surprised that a tree for a few million rubles looks so bad.

Together with transportation, installation and daily round-the-clock service, Smolny, under the leadership of Governor Alexander Beglov, will spend about 13 million rubles on the Christmas tree, judging by the experience of past years. Local residents do not understand how specialists could have brought a damaged tree worth several million rubles from the forest.

Netizens write in Petersburg publics that this is not really surprising. Local authorities have repeatedly failed to perform seemingly simple tasks. Motorists, for example, do not understand why the administration, a week after a heavy snowfall, cannot clean some roads.
