14 people have been hospitalized in St. Petersburg with frostbite since the beginning of the cold weather, as reported by the city Health Committee.

The report states that since the beginning of frost, 14 patients with frostbite have already been admitted to the Janelidze Institute of Emergency Medicine. So, over the past weekend, six men with frostbite were admitted to the department of thermal injuries of the medical facility.

Most of the frostbite is superficial, but there are also deep, which require amputation of limb segments.

Frosty weather came to St. Petersburg together with the beginning of the calendar winter. On the night of December 6, thermometers dropped sharply to minus 21 degrees, which became a new temperature record since 1893. Today in St. Petersburg, minus 13.5 degrees Celsius is observed.

According to doctors, the nose, ears, cheeks, chin, fingers and toes are more likely to suffer from frost. Cold causes temporary impairment of blood circulation, loss of sensitivity, and sometimes even irreversible damage. In most cases of mild frostbite, you can warm frozen limbs for 20-30 minutes, for example, with warm water. In more serious cases, if the skin has turned white and there are blisters, an urgent need to seek medical help.
