St. Petersburg authorities will start to collect a resort fee from April 1, 2024, reports "RIA Novosti" after the adoption of the draft law in the first reading by the City Council.
The law on the collection of this fee will come into force on October 1, but the payment itself will be charged only from that date, because until then a zero rate will be applied. For the document voted 42 deputies, three abstained, and one against.
Under the new rules, tourists must pay the spa fee for the actual days spent at the hotel, excluding the day of settlement. The amount of payment will not be automatically included in the room rate. If a guest refuses to pay, the hotel will be required to notify the city within two days.
Introduction of resort fee in St. Petersburg is implemented in order to preserve, restore and develop tourism in the city, according to an explanatory note to the bill.
