By the end of this year in St. Petersburg expect a surge of swine flu to peak. This is reported by "Nevskie Novosti".

The first cases of swine flu in the Northern Capital identified back in November. Vladimir Bolibok, an immunologist, notes that the infection is spreading faster than in pre-pandemic times. Also, experts cannot predict how long the peaks will last.

Experts believe that the risk of infection can be reduced by the same methods that were used for coronavirus. These are social distance and wearing masks in public places.

"Masks are the main method of flu prevention. But you can't forget about vaccination. This is the most effective method, and in second place is mask mode," explained epidemiologist Nikolai Dubinin.

Another expert Georgy Vikulov warns that wearing masks during the flu epidemic is effective if at least 80% of the population wears them. This interrupts the chain of infection and reduces the risk of disease for everyone.
