Three nuclear-powered icebreakers of the 22220 series being built at Baltiysky Zavod are required to operate in Russia's high latitudes. They will take part in ice navigation in the Arctic, in sections of the Yenisei and Gulf of Ob, for towing ships and other floating structures in ice and clear water.

The universal nuclear-powered icebreaker Yakutia was laid down in May 2020, Chukotka in December 2020, and Leningrad on January 26, 2024. Next year, 2025, it is planned to lay down a ship of the same class, which will be named "Stalingrad".

As Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said, commenting on the government's decision to allocate funds, the output of civilian ships in Russia, cargo and passenger, has increased by 25% in just one year. The construction of icebreakers should also be continued.

So far, three icebreakers of Project 22220 have already been built: Arktika, Sibir and Ural. The Chukotka, which is under construction, was equipped with two RITM-200 reactors in February.
