According to the press service of the Committee for Nature Management, in 2023 in the reserve “Sestroretskoye bog” was recorded up to 14 thousand toads. Their number depends on weather conditions and breeding success.

“Petersburg 2” reminds that toads go to spawn to lay eggs and continue the family when warm weather arrives. Migration begins in mid-April and ends in the first half of May. Due to the early arrival of spring, toads began their migration as early as early May. However, the snowy April resulted in the migration lasting almost two months instead of the usual 30 days.

Toads cross public roads, which leads to their death under the wheels of cars or bicycles. In order to preserve the population, it was decided to fence off the section of the road where the main migration route passes, and to attract volunteers who will carry the amphibians manually.

Earlier, the Leningrad Zoo told why Shu the Pallas' Pallas' cat avoids visitors, and legal outlets for selling smelt were opened in St. Petersburg.
