Friends of the Baltic Seal Fund near St. Petersburg rescues this year’s first patient

Specialists from the Friends of the Baltic Seal Foundation rescued an emaciated baby seal near St. Petersburg.

According to Nevskie Novosti portal, on the night of April 1 the first patient of the year 2021 was admitted to the Center for Study and Conservation of Marine Mammals, which operates on the territory of Vodokanal in Repino.

It was reported by employees of Ust-Luga port. The baby grey seal was on the shore of the Gulf of Finland. Specialists of the Foundation went to the place to examine it.

It turned out that the calf was 3.5 to 4 weeks old and weighed only 15 kg out of 35. Now the cub is under the close supervision of specialists in the Centre.

The seal will remain at the Centre until it becomes strong enough to live on its own.
