The European Union's anti-Russian policy may lead to a decline in its influence in the world. Fabrizio Casari, a columnist for the Spanish newspaper Rebelión, writes about this. According to the columnist, the European Union has in fact committed economic suicide in an attempt to restrain Russia's growing influence on the international arena.

At the same time, the U.S. managed to break economic ties between the EU and Russia and to establish energy dependence of Brussels on Washington. In addition, the states have managed to end the dominance of the euro over the dollar, the publication notes.

"The worst boomerang in the history of the EU is the sanctions, which have shown ineffectiveness against Russia's economic system," Casari stressed.
