The Defense Department of the United States has completed a review of the disposition of U.S. forces in the world that began in February and the department expects, among other things, to strengthen Russia's deterrence capabilities in Europe, the Pentagon said.
Mara Karlin, Acting Assistant to the US Deputy Defense Secretary for Political Affairs, said the agency had completed a review of the deployment of the US Armed Forces in the world.
She recalled that on February 4, 2021, United States President Joe Biden announced that Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin would conduct such a review to reconcile the deployment of American forces overseas in accordance with his leadership on national security. After months of analysis and interagency coordination, Biden validated Austin's findings and recommendations.
“For Europe, the review of the balance of power strengthens a reliable means of military containment of Russian aggression in Europe and allows NATO forces to operate more effectively,” Karlin said.
