Producers and disseminators of false information about the army may lose property, money and valuables. The same punishment will be imposed on those who call for extremism.
The relevant draft law has been approved and recommended for adoption by the State Duma Committee on State Building. The draft law contains tougher penalties than before for calls for offences against the security of the state.
Actions motivated by selfish motives, political, religious or national hatred are named as aggravating circumstances. As for fakes, in addition to confiscation of property, the guilty will be deprived of military and honorary ranks, as well as awards.
During the discussion of the draft law, it was emphasised that not all property will be confiscated, but only property acquired by criminal means. The document will be considered in the second reading on 31 January, while the third reading is scheduled for 1 February.
