Ilham Aliyev: Baku demands to regain control over three regions of Karabakh

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced the possible holding of talks with Armenia. The politician has already voiced the demands that Baku will put forward.

"During the negotiations with Armenia, we will demand to regain control over the Lachin and Kelbajar regions, as well as over part of the Agdam region. This will be done if Yerevan speaks about the implementation of the basic principles of conflict settlement in Nagorno-Karabakh," Ilham Aliyev told Interfax.

The Azerbaijani leader announced the upcoming negotiations between the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia. The conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh is scheduled to be discussed on October 29 in Geneva.

"Now the discussion of the return of the Jabrail, Fizuli, Zangilan, Gubadli and Agdam districts to Azerbaijan is irrelevant. If we agree at the first stage of negotiations on a political settlement, then Armenia will have to withdraw its troops from the Lachin, Kelbajar and Agdam regions," Ilham Aliyev emphasized.

The Azerbaijani President also accused Armenia of war crimes, violation of the Geneva Convention and deception of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. "Yerevan is obliged to withdraw troops from all the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh and cease hostilities. We will stop the attacks, too, but on condition of reciprocity. The third breakdown of the truce, like all others, remains on Armenia's conscience," Ilham Aliyev added.

The President of Azerbaijan also reported on the deaths of more than 5,000 Armenian soldiers during the fighting. Armenia reported 6,759 deaths on the Azerbaijani side.
