German diplomat names conditions for Nord Stream 2 completion

Wolfgang Ischinger, head of the Munich Security Conference, believes that Nord Stream 2 is likely to be completed because European countries will need Russian gas for a long time to come. He listed three conditions for completing the project.

According to Wolfgang Ischinger, Germany should envisage a mechanism of urgent termination of Nord Stream-2 and allow other EU countries to influence the situation. The diplomat said this in a publication in Spiegel, in which he listed the conditions for the successful completion of the project.

The second condition will be the conclusion of the "Euro-Atlantic Energy Treaty" between Berlin, Brussels and Washington, according to which the transition to renewable energy sources will be made. Ischinger emphasized that Russia could also join the treaty.

Thirdly, the diplomat believes that the construction of the pipeline can be used to achieve political goals, including regulation of the situation in Ukraine, as well as involvement in the Alexei Navalny case.
