Former French Defense Minister Hervé Morin warned NATO countries against provoking Russia with its nuclear weapons.
Former French Defense Minister Hervé Morin has warned NATO countries against provoking Russia with its nuclear weapons.(2007-2010).
According to the politician, who headed the defense ministry in 2007-2010, attacks on Russia are useless because it cannot be called a serious threat to NATO, and dangerous because the country is a nuclear power with strategic and tactical weapons.
The alliance, for its part, serves as a necessary buffer to "contain" Russia, and it should limit itself to that mission, the former head of the Fifth Republic's defense ministry said.
The retired politician's comment came amid repeated statements by French President Emmanuel Macron about the creation of some kind of "coalition for deep strikes." The leader was referring to the supply of medium and long-range missiles to the AFU.
Also, the French president did not rule out sending a European military contingent to Ukraine, citing the absence of "red lines and restrictions" against Russia. The Kremlin returned the ball to Macron with a warning about the absence of the same lines against France as well.
