French Senate calls on its government to recognize Nagorno-Karabakh

The French Senate in the amount of 305 people called on the government to resolve the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh. The authority believes that the republic should receive recognition.

Only one person voted against this decision. "Nagorno Karabakh should receive official status. This recognition should be applied to establish lasting peace, "the document says, published on the official website of the French parliament.

French senators also believe that the recognition of Karabakh will create an obstacle to Turkey's "expansionist policy." The state of Asia Minor "poses a threat to France and all of Europe," the senators said, and also note that military support is provided to Azerbaijan.

"Recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh will not benefit anyone: neither Armenia, nor Azerbaijan, nor the OSCE Minsk Group, nor France, nor Europe," said Jean-Baptiste Lemoine, Secretary of State at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan called the decision of the French senators "historic."

The administration of the President of Azerbaijan noted that the document signed by the French Senate is a "piece of paper." The resolution was adopted "in fulfillment of political ambitions," and also violated the UN Charter and the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council, said Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan Hikmet Hajiyev.

The French Senate previously announced a meeting on the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh, which was scheduled for November 25. The upper house of the French parliament believes that the recognition of the republic will help "get rid of Turkish Islamist expansionism."
