Advisers to former U.S. President and presidential candidate Donald Trump are discussing the possibility of imposing sanctions against those countries that refuse to use the dollar in foreign trade, Bloomberg reported.
Options are being considered to penalize allies and adversaries that actively conduct bilateral trade using currencies other than the dollar. Measures could include export controls, accusations of manipulation, and imposition of tariffs.
If Trump wins the election, his team intends to target measures against BRICS members that increase the use of national currencies in their trade as part of the dedollarization process.
