Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau excused himself for inviting an SS division veteran to Parliament.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said that neither he nor Volodymyr Zelensky's delegation knew about the invitation to the Canadian parliament and plans to honor elderly Ukrainian SS soldier Yaroslav Hunku. The SS division fighter was called there by House of Commons Speaker Anthony Rota.
Trudeau did not take responsibility for the scandal and apologized. The prime minister said the Speaker of Parliament did the right thing by apologizing for the incident.
He added that Canada would continue to support Ukraine and was proud to have hosted Zelensky.
Among others invited to the parliamentary session in honor of the Ukrainian president's visit was 98-year-old Yaroslav Hunk, who, as it later turned out, was a member of the SS Volunteer Division Halychyna.
The speaker of parliament earlier apologized for inviting him to parliament and honoring the SS man.
