The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation announced the closure of the consulate in Gothenburg, Sweden. Since September 1, the office will be closed.
In addition, in response to the actions of official Stockholm, Moscow decided to declare persona non grata five staff members of the Swedish embassy, three of whom worked in the Office of the Defence Attaché. Moreover, the Consulate of the Kingdom in St. Petersburg will also be closed.
It is known that on April 25, Swedish authorities announced the expulsion of five diplomats of the Russian diplomatic mission. In Stockholm they explained their actions by the fact that the activities of embassy employees were allegedly incompatible with their status and violated provisions of the Vienna Convention.
The Swedish Foreign Ministry has already expressed its regret with regard to the decisions made by the Russian leadership.
