Washington has demanded that Russian lawmakers show respect for LGBT people.
In his Twitter account, United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken demanded that Russian lawmakers repeal the law banning LGBT propaganda in Russia. According to him, the rights of the LGBT community must be respected.
Blinken expressed his belief that the law was a blow to LGBT rights and expression.
"We call on Russian lawmakers to withdraw the bill and respect the human rights and dignity of all," the secretary of state said.
The State Duma passed in its second reading a bill that would prohibit the promotion of LGBT relationships and pedophilia in the media, literature, movies, and advertising.
