Putin says provocations are being prepared against Russia over COVID-19

The Russian leadership has information about media provocations being prepared against the country in connection with the fight against the coronavirus. The statement was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting of the FSB board on Wednesday.

"You know, a lot of attempts have been made and are being made, and I thank you for the information that you give to the country's political leadership about that and some provocations being planned in this area," Putin said.

The President emphasized that a planned "information campaign is being carried out against Russia with unapologetic and unsubstantiated accusations on a number of issues". Moreover, "absurd conspiracy theories" are being used to undermine Russia's successes in the field of medicine and the fight against the coronavirus.

At the same time, many of Russia's partners are sympathetic to Russian achievements in the medical field and are willing to cooperate. This attitude has been welcomed by the Russian authorities.

The Russian president also noted that the country is used to and ready for all kinds of provocations. Putin emphasized that opponents are trying to "shackle Russia with economic and other sanctions," block major international projects, and openly interfere in the public and political life of the country. In particular, tools from the arsenal of special services are being actively used.

"We are ready to conduct an open dialogue, to find compromise solutions to the most complicated problems - on the basis of mutual trust and respect," the president emphasized, noting that the sovereignty of Russia and its national interests still remain the main thing for the authorities.

Putin called on the security services to ensure a new quality of work in all key areas.
