Russian Ministry refuses to break off relations with European Union on its own initiative

According to the Russian representative to the EU, such a situation has never been discussed. At the same time, Moscow will be able to respond to new sanctions imposed by Brussels if necessary, he added.

Russia is not going to break off diplomatic relations with the European Union on its own initiative. Russia's permanent representative to the EU, Vladimir Chizhov, said this on Russia 24 channel.

According to him, the bad relations between Moscow and Brussels are the result of the actions of the European side, as well as those who support such a policy.

Chizhov added that Russia will give an asymmetric response to the sanctions by the European Union. In the diplomat's opinion, the restrictive measures which Brussels is currently developing in connection with the situation with Alexei Navalny will not be impressive in content.

A few days ago, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that a break in relations between Moscow and Brussels was indeed possible due to new sanctions.
