Russian Foreign Ministry introduces sanctions against number of British citizens

Russia imposed sanctions against 25 representatives of Great Britain.

This was stated in a statement by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

Russia took such measures in response to the decision of the British government to impose sanctions in connection with the death of auditor Sergei Magnitsky in 2009. Zakharova noted that Moscow has repeatedly given comprehensive comments on this issue, which London "prefers not to notice."

"In response to the unfriendly actions of the British authorities and on the basis of the principle of reciprocity, the Russian side decided to introduce personal sanctions against 25 representatives of the UK who are blocked from entering the territory of Russia," the text says.

Zakharova called on Britain to abandon the "unjustified" confrontational line towards Russia. According to her, any such steps will not go unanswered.
