Putin: over 5,000 people killed in Nagorno-Karabakh

Russian President Vladimir Putin called the number of victims of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.

"Since the beginning of the new round of conflict in Karabakh, the number of victims has exceeded 5,000. At least 2,000 people died on each side," Vladimir Putin said at the meeting of the Valdai discussion club.

According to the president, today the conflict "manifests itself in its worst version." "At some point, it seemed to us that a solution could be found, but we were mistaken. Over the ten years of the war in Afghanistan, about 15 thousand people died," Vladimir Putin emphasized.

The Russian leader also expects that the United States will take the side of Russia on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. Vladimir Putin emphasized that Moscow seeks to act as a mediator in resolving the conflict together with other countries.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced the taking under full control of the entire Azerbaijani-Iranian border. In addition, he announced the capture of 22 settlements.

Vladimir Putin at a meeting of the Valdai discussion club also spoke about the upcoming "tectonic shifts" of the whole planet.
