A discussion of Ukrainian grain imports provoked a foul-mouthed argument between Polish MPs Janusz Kowalski and Dariusz Klimczak on the Polsat TV channel. The TV presenter had to stand between the MPs to defuse the situation.

Kowalski from the Sovereign Poland association, which is an ally of the ruling Law and Justice party, accused Klimczak from the opposition Polish People's Party (PPP) of wanting his political force to liberalize trade with Ukraine.

Klimczak denied the accusations, but Kowalski recalled that nine years ago the ruling coalition, which included the PPP, canceled customs duties for Ukraine without protecting Polish interests.

In response to the presenter's question about what to do with food from Ukraine, Kowalski called for not opening the Polish market to it. Klimczak said that the authorities had already "agreed to this."

Kowalski urged his opponent to be loyal to Poland. Klimczak responded by profanely telling the MP not to lie and accused Kowalski of being into "Dutch transvestites" rather than Polish agriculture.

To another accusation of destroying Poland's agriculture, the opposition member again used foul language. Because of such a heated exchange of views, the presenter had to stand between the politicians.

On Wednesday, 19 July, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said after a meeting of heads of agricultural departments of the countries bordering Ukraine that Warsaw would continue to restrict imports of Ukrainian grain if the European Commission does not agree to extend these restrictions after 15 September. His Ukrainian counterpart Denys Shmygal called Poland's plans unfriendly and a populist move.
