US state department ready to communicate with Russia on extension of START

The head of the press service of the US State Department, Morgan Ortagus, announced his readiness to communicate with Russia on the extension of the START Treaty. The meeting can be held «immediately.»

"The United States is ready to immediately hold a meeting on the extension of the Treaty on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms. We appreciate Russia's desire to make progress on the issue of controlling nuclear weapons," said Morgan Ortagus.

Washington is already ready to "finalize" the agreement, which is also expected from Russia. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov previously announced Moscow's readiness to continue discussing the extension of the START-3.

Russian President Vladimir Putin previously announced his readiness to extend the START Treaty "without any conditions." The head of state believes that the agreement should be extended for at least one year. The agreement ends on February 4, 2021.
