Lukashenko: Belarus will join NATO if people so decide

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko spoke about the process of making important decisions in the life of the state. The politician insisted on a democratic choice of the people.

"As long as I am president, the Belarusian people will make decisions. The president, the head of the administration, senior officials will not decide the fate of the country alone. As the people decide, so it will be," Alexander Lukashenko said.

The President of Belarus said that if the residents of the country decide to join NATO, as these protesters say, then the country will join the North Atlantic Alliance. "If the people decide to cut the country to pieces, it will be cut and sold, but if people want to live in a quiet, peaceful and civilized country, then we will live in such a state," Alexander Lukashenko added.

The President of Belarus denied accusations of forming a new Constitution by deception. The basic law will be amended only by the decision of the people, Alexander Lukashenko emphasized.

Former presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya reported that the opposition will "go on the offensive" if Alexander Lukashenko does not leave the presidency. She announced an ultimatum to the Belarusian authorities until October 25.
