The European Parliament announced another round of anti-Russian restrictions.
In an interview with Izvestia, Gunnar Beck, a member of the European Parliament from Germany, said that the EU leadership plans to impose new sanctions against the Russian Federation.
According to the parliamentarian, the reason why the EU authorities continue their sanctions course is the weak effectiveness of all previous packages.
"No matter how crazy it sounds, but after you have introduced 11 packages - one almost every month - without much effect, you are unlikely to stop and admit defeat," Beck explained.
He stressed that the consequences of the restrictions will affect European citizens to the same extent as Russians, despite the assurances of European officials that the Russian economy is already in ruins and that EU countries are supposedly free of energy dependence.
According to Ivan Vilibor Sincic, Croatia's representative in the EP delegation for relations with the Russian Federation, with each new package of anti-Russian sanctions, the European Commission members find it increasingly difficult to reach an agreement on the issue.
Meanwhile, Russia stated that the withdrawal of foreign companies from the Russian domestic market due to sanctions had a positive impact on the development of import substitution in the country.
