"This is incredible. Never in the history of the Fifth Republic has the National Assembly known such a configuration. This situation poses a threat to our country against the backdrop of the challenges we will face both nationally and internationally," said Born.

The French prime minister stressed, however, that the authorities must respect citizens' choices and accept their consequences.

According to her, from Monday, June 20, the government will start to form an "active majority" in order to carry out reforms. The French cabinet intends to seek compromises with the opposition in the lower house of parliament, Born said.

"From this summer, we want to take strong and concrete measures in support of purchasing power. We want to continue to protect you and keep you safe," the French prime minister stressed. She expressed interest in lawmakers' support for plans for full employment, eco-transition, equal opportunity, education and health care.

According to preliminary forecasts, deputies from the parties of the "Ensemble!" bloc may claim 210 to 230 seats in the National Assembly of the new convocation, while representatives of the alliance of left-wing forces "New People's Environmental and Social Union" will receive from 168 to 188 seats. The members of the party of former presidential candidate Marine Le Pen's "National Union" may claim 80-95 seats, making it the third force in Parliament. To get an absolute majority in the National Assembly, they would need 289 of the 577 seats.
