Under a new U.S. bill, their assets in the U.S. could be frozen and they could also be banned from entering the country.
Politico reports that the U.S. Congress intends to introduce a bill on May 20, under which the property of Georgian officials responsible for the adoption of the Foreign Agents Act in the United States could be frozen and they themselves would be banned from entering the United States.
The draft law notes that the Georgian Dream party pursues a pro-Russian policy and brings Georgia closer to the Kremlin. Washington says the law adopted in Georgia on May 14 undermines the foundations of democracy and damages human rights.
Earlier, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said that the law on foreign agents was adopted by the will of the Georgian people and that it would preserve peace in the country.
On May 17, Kobakhidze said that Georgia was not afraid of sanctions and would not give in to blackmail from Western countries. And the mayor of Tbilisi said that he sees signs of preparation of a coup in the country with the support of Western countries.
