Mexican leader Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador urged not to stir up a scandal over the fact that soldiers from Russia's 154th Preobrazhensky Regiment marched in Mexico's Independence Day parade, as all countries were invited to participate.
He said the criticism drew attention because the Chinese also participated in the parade, but it did not hurt anyone. Obrador emphasized that all governments with which Mexico maintains relations were invited.
On Saturday, Mexico City hosted an Independence Day parade featuring soldiers from the 154th Transfiguration Regiment, founded by Peter the Great in the 17th century. In Mexico came several defense ministers, as well as the head of the U.S. Northern Command and military officials from other states.
