Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on Russia's relations with Japan.
In an interview with journalist Anton Krasovsky on YouTube channel Antonyms, responding to a question about the possibility of "handing over" the Kuril Islands for signing a peace treaty with Japan, Zakharova emphasized that the topic can no longer be "discussed in any way,” according to the Russian Constitution.
However, she said that Russia was ready to negotiate with Japan to develop relations.
"On the one hand, we are ready and negotiating, and they are not giving up in any way, including stepping up cooperation with the United States on the deployment of various anti-missile systems in their country. We are talking about the need to develop mutually beneficial bilateral relations," said Maria Zakharova.
