Member of the Presidium of the Coordinating Council of Belarus, Pavel Latushko, said that the opposition wants to receive $4 billion from the European Union. Funds are planned to be spent on «supporting the democratization of Belarus.»
"The package should not be the $1.5 billion that the eastern country offered. Real financial assistance should amount to 3-4 billion dollars, which must be spent to support the democratization of Belarus," said Pavel Latushko.
The oppositionist also said that his supporters are not interested in the foreign policy agenda. "We do not control protest actions, which are unique thanks to the self-organization of the protest masses," Pavel Latushko added during a press conference.
The oppositionist also noted that Belarus needs to restructure its debts, get long-term credit resources and support from Europe for economic reforms.
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko flew to Sochi to hold negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. At the meeting, the Russian leader promised to allocate $1.5 billion to the neighboring country to support the economy. The parties also discussed issues of energy supplies and talked about conducting joint military exercises.
