American President Donald Trump expressed on Tuesday his opinion that the 50-day period set by him for the settlement of the Ukrainian issue is not excessively long. He also expressed confidence that peace could be achieved sooner.
The day before, citing a source in the White House administration, Reuters reported on the possibility of the U.S. leader imposing 100 percent tariffs on Russia and secondary sanctions against states that purchase Russian oil, if there is no agreement on the Ukrainian crisis within the specified period.
The European Union's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, endorsed Trump's statement but considered 50 days an unnecessarily long period.
"I don't think 50 days is a long period. I believe an agreement can be reached faster," the president told reporters while at the White House.
At the same time, Trump emphasized that the consequences will be extremely negative if no agreement on Ukraine is reached within 50 days, reaffirming his intentions to impose duties and other restrictive measures.
