The Swedish prime minister fears that disagreements over Ukraine are driving a wedge in EU-U.S. relations.
A split in the EU countries over financial support for Ukraine could be a dangerous signal for Washington, as it shows that there is no common view on the solution to the Ukrainian crisis, the Financial Times has quoted Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson as saying.
The Swedish prime minister said that he was "concerned that there are signs of division in Europe and this is also a sign for the USA". He noted that Ukraine needs support from the US, but that the EU "must also demonstrate to the American people that it is ready to support the Ukrainians."
Kristersson emphasized that he was also concerned about how relations between the USA and the EU would be built up in the coming days amid the current disagreements over support for the Ukrainian state.
