Norway accuses Russia of August cyber-attack on parliament

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused Russia of organizing a cyber-attack on the government. These actions were allegedly carried out in August 2020.

"Russia attacked Norway's parliament. This incident is a serious incident that dealt a blow to the democratic institution of the country," the press service of the Norwegian Foreign Ministry reports citing the words of the head of the department, Eriksen Sereide.

Norway reported a cyber-attack on September 1. The alleged attack resulted in open access to e-mail of some Norwegian Parliament members.

Norway has already sent Russia a notification of an alleged cyber-attack. A representative of the Russian embassy was also called. "We want to establish good pragmatic relations. We cannot ignore a cyber-attack, since it affected our most important democratic institution," the Norwegian Foreign Ministry said.

In August 2020, Russia and Norway exchanged expulsions of diplomats. It is not excluded that the alleged cyber-attack has a connection with this incident.
