"The risk of the use of nuclear weapons is now at its highest level since the peak of the Cold War," the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) report noted.

According to scientists, there are now clear signs that the process of nuclear arms reduction is coming to an end.

SIPRI experts stated that all the powers that are members of the "nuclear club": Russia, the United States, Great Britain, France, China, India, Pakistan, Israel and North Korea are increasing the number of warheads and are modernizing their nuclear arsenals.

The institute's report notes that the use of nuclear weapons is very real because over the past few years, relations between world leaders have deteriorated to the breaking point. The experts cited the fact that U.S.-Russian strategic stability talks have been frozen since the start of the special military operation in Ukraine. Russia and the United States account for more than 90% of all nuclear weapons, the SIPRI scholars recalled.
