The document notes that the Council rejects and condemns the recent acts of desecration of the Holy Quran, emphasizing the importance of bringing the perpetrators of these acts to justice in accordance with international human rights.

Representatives of 28 countries voted in favor of the resolution, 12 voted against and 7 abstained. The vote took place at an extraordinary session of the HRC after the Koran burning incident in Sweden.

Russia supported the resolution, but did not take part in the vote, as it is not a member of the Council.

As previously reported, Sweden approved the action on the day of the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha, during which the attackers burned the Koran. This event was condemned in many countries. Pope Francis also expressed his outrage.
