The United States is strengthening its security cooperation with Japan and the Philippines, under which Washington is prepared to respond jointly to incidents in the South China Sea, U.S. President Joe Biden said.
He said U.S. defense commitments to Japan and the Philippines are unwavering. As he said earlier, any attack on Philippine planes, ships or military personnel in the South China Sea would activate the common defense agreements.
Biden made his statement in Washington before trilateral talks began with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
