Call for Navalny’s release signed by 45 countries

Poland has submitted to the UN Human Rights Council a statement signed by representatives of 45 states.

It called for "the immediate and unconditional release of Navalny". The actions against him were deemed "politically motivated". This was reported by Reuters.

In addition, the signatories to the document advocated respect for the rights of peaceful assembly and association. It also expressed concern about the large number of arrests of protesters who had expressed support for Navalny.

The Public News Service earlier reported that Russia's permanent representative to the OPCW, Alexander Shulgin, had said that Moscow had proposed that the organization carry out a study of Navalny's analyses. This was planned to be done on the basis of the Russian certified laboratory No. 62 of the Research Institute of Hygiene, Occupational Pathology and Human Ecology (NII HPEHR of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency).

However, this proposal was rejected by the OPCW. It was sent back in the autumn of last year.
