British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has announced her candidacy for head of the country's ruling Conservative Party and British Prime Minister. Her statement article was published Sunday, July 10, in The Daily Telegraph.

Truss noted that Britain faces serious challenges at home amid a global economic crisis, as well as challenges abroad "coming from an aggressive Russia and an increasingly determined China."

But the politician is determined and will keep all the promises she has made to the British people.

"I am running for office because I can lead people, keep promises and make hard decisions," Truss declares.

If elected prime minister, Liz Truss promises to start cutting taxes from day one.

Boris Johnson announced on July 7 that he was leaving his post as Prime Minister of Britain and head of the Conservative Party. He will serve as prime minister until a new head of government is appointed.
